In this morning’s welcome ceremony Bentley Chief Marketing Officer Edward Mueller announced that this year’s BE Conference here in Baltimore, Maryland soared with over 2,000 registrations representing 50 different countries. In addition there were more than 70 journalists, 179 industry speakers and 26 exhibitors.
Live From Baltimore: BE Conference Welcome Reception
The streets of Baltimore were flooded with baseball fans and hot dog vendors as I made my way to the convention center to attend the Bentley Systems welcome reception at the Baltimore Convention Center here in Maryland. Right across the street is the Camden Yards stadium where the Baltimore Orioles played the New York Yankees.
Bentley Acquires Common Point to Mainstream Construction Simulation
Acquisition Will Enable Bentley to Accelerate Integrated Project Delivery for Infrastructure Projects by Closing Gaps Between Design, Construction, and Operations
BALTIMORE – BE Conference 2008 – May 28, 2008 – Bentley Systems, Incorporated today announced that it has acquired the global business of Common Point, Incorporated, the pioneer and market leader in software products for construction simulation (ConstructSim) and operations simulation (OpSim). ConstructSim has become widely established in plant projects, has been successfully deployed on building projects, and, along with OpSim, can also be applied in civil infrastructure projects. The integration of Common Point’s technology with Bentley’s ProjectWise Navigator platform and comprehensive portfolio of applications and collaboration servers will enable Bentley to accelerate integrated project delivery for infrastructure projects by closing gaps between design, construction, and operations.

WOW – The impressive list of software offerings from Bentley continues to grow. Take a look at the list. Gee – I remember when it was only Microstation PC.
Here is a great place to go and get some of the Tips and Tricks you may need in Microstation…
It is the Microstation Connections web site. There is a lot here for the Ustn user. A free membership sign up may be required.

Thanks for visiting!!
I just returned from presenting three classes at the Salt Lake City CAD Camp. It was a well attended event in downtown SLC. Matt Murphy “Revealed” several classes. David Cohn presented on Annotation Scaling for Text. There were Civil, Architectural and Manufacturing focused classes. I presented on CAD Leadership, Preventative CAD Management and working with BAD CAD.
AUGI gave away an assortment or prizes ranging from computer bags,to sweatshirts and MP3 players.
Here are some photos from the event taken by David Cohn and Shaan Hurley.
Many thanks to ProSoft for making it a great event as the sponsor and also providing great speakers. Other sponsors and vendors on site included 4D Technologies which does AUGI CADLearning.com . This site provides the FREE online e-training for AUGI members.
Attendees at AUGI CAD Camps also get a $150 discount off of the price of Autodesk University.
So many good reasons to attend an AUGI CAD Camp. Are you going to one?
I attended the AUGI CAD Camp today. It was located near LAX airport. It was a great event.
AUGI provided a wide range of educational presentations. Matt Murphy was the master of ceremonies, as he does so well at so many events. He presented some of his “Revealed” topics. Other presenters included Robert Green on CAD Management and David Cohn presented on a variety of topics and was snapping pictures at every turn. Heidi Hewett present on the main stage and the anchor Autodesk personality. She discussed AutoCAD 2009.
Other presenters were part of the Kelar Pacific team (the sponsoring reseller) and Scott Davis (my RUGIE buddy) and Angel Espinoza (Civil Tech Specialist with Autodesk and former coworker of my from KETIV Technologies).
The halls were crammed for the buffet lunch and to see the vendor displays from e-Specs, 4D Technologies, nVidia, AIA Pasadena and others.
The event was well attended, but I did not get a final head count.
If you get the chance – go to a AUGI CAD Camp near you.
We had the May RUGIE meeting at HMC Architects. The turnout was about 35 or so. We had the opportunity to hear about e-Specs from Seamus McGrady of Interspec. This tool works with Revit to pull the appropriate spec sections from Master Spec.
Scott Davis of Autodesk then showed us the power of the Revit Building Maker. Moving from shapes and masses to finished building components in minutes. He show several methods of doing this. He also showed some advance design tools that allow you to create swept blends and turn them into walls and curtain walls. Exciting stuff.
