CAD Standards – Your Layer List

Standard Layers are a big deal. Getting them right is very important and getting them wrong is very easy.

I have seen so many vague lists that I have been frustrated trying to follow them. They do not give the right amount of information that is needed. They leave gaps.

Here is what I think needs to be documented in your layer list.
Make sure it includes:

  • Layer Names for All Disciplines
  • Default ON or Freeze
  • Default Lock Status
  • Default Color
  • Line Type
  • Line weight
  • Plot Style
  • Plot/No Plot
  • New VP Freeze
  • Layer Description

If you have not covered all of these areas,then your users will get creative with the ones you have left out.

Basically – define everything that is in the Layer List Dialog box.

    Hello, Mark!now i’m using a stb method for plotting (i’ve been using a ctb method for a long time)I can’t realize one issue – what about line weight setting in layer manager dialog? I have set it by default – and using the line weight via plot style dialog. Is it right approach?
    Thank you for great work about CAD management
