{"id":664,"date":"2008-09-01T04:47:05","date_gmt":"2008-09-01T12:47:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/?p=664"},"modified":"2008-08-29T10:59:53","modified_gmt":"2008-08-29T18:59:53","slug":"always-a-newbie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/2008\/09\/always-a-newbie\/","title":{"rendered":"Always a Newbie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New technology tools constantly make me a newbie.\u00a0 Even technology that is easy to figure out make me have questions that I cannot answer right away.<\/p>\n<p>According to Wikipedia&#8230; <strong>Newbie<\/strong> (also said as nooby or newby) is a slang term for a newcomer&#8230;\u00a0 a somewhat clueless newcomer&#8230; It can have derogatory connotations, but is also often used for descriptive purposes only, without a value judgment.<\/p>\n<p>I just got a new blackberry device (I use to have one of the older models way back when).\u00a0 So I am &#8220;getting up to speed&#8221; on it.<\/p>\n<p>I wanted to try to figure it our myself, so I did not ask for help, did not read the book and did not go online.\u00a0 I wanted to see what an unassisted newbie felt like. I quickly figured out most of the functions, but eventually ended up asking on others.<\/p>\n<p>What did I learn from trying to figure out my new device (and from other things)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>That newbies are all around us.<\/li>\n<li>That you can be an expert in one area and a newbie in another.<\/li>\n<li>That newbies feel lost from time to time.<\/li>\n<li>That newbies are not as productive as others.<\/li>\n<li>That Noobs are often left without help.<\/li>\n<li>That noobies often cannot help themselves.<\/li>\n<li>That newbies depend on the internet to find out how to do things.<\/li>\n<li>That newbies are not to be blamed for not knowing.<\/li>\n<li>That newbies often do not get it right.<\/li>\n<li>That newbies need help and it is not their fault.<\/li>\n<li>That I am a newbie in many areas where I have not ventured yet.<\/li>\n<li>I have been a newbie in the past and I will be one in the future.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All of this means that the CAD Manager needs to be patient and helpful to newbies.\u00a0 Kind of a no brainer, but a good reminder anyway.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New technology tools constantly make me a newbie.\u00a0 Even technology that is easy to figure out make me have questions that I cannot answer right away.
