Combine these four and you get a balanced approach to CAD.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s look at the Tools<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tools<\/strong> relates to the ones that you select.  Which ones will you use?\u00a0  What will you use them for?<\/p>\n<p>Defining the individual Tools that are in your firms tool box is part of your job as a CAD Manager.\u00a0\u00a0 The process for selecting each tools should be systematic,selective and inclusive of many voices.\u00a0 But at some point, the CAD Manager has to weigh in with a choice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>No Choice:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Some CAD Managers don&#8217;t get a choice.\u00a0 They inherit tools.\u00a0 The tools are selected by others.\u00a0 Or the client or project defines the tool.\u00a0 These are realities that we all have to live with.\u00a0 So working with tools that may not be on the top of your list is a day to day reality.<\/p>\n<p>When you have no choice on the tools being used &#8211; you need to make the best of it.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t complain about how crummy the tools are (even though they may be).\u00a0 Do your best to get the best out of each tool.\u00a0 Look for and build on the best parts of each tool.\u00a0 Try to minimize or work around the areas that are weak.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When you Choose:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When you have the chance to choose the tools that your firm works with, what do you look for?\u00a0 The best all around tool?\u00a0 The best at one particular function?\u00a0 The newest?\u00a0 The cheapest?\u00a0 There are many factors that go into software choices.\u00a0 I could not really list them all.\u00a0 And if I tried, I may miss the ones that you think is most important.<\/p>\n<p>Is it cost?\u00a0 Is it compatibility with other tools?\u00a0 Is it what others are using (industry standard).\u00a0 Is it knowledge of your users?\u00a0 Is it training costs?\u00a0 Support costs?<\/p>\n<p>When I weigh the selection of CAD tools, I have to take all of these into account.\u00a0 Leaving one out may sabotage your selection.\u00a0 Wading through the impactful issues may be tough.<\/p>\n<p><strong>So here is a challenge: <\/strong> Comment on this post with your top three factors that go into software choices&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tools &#8211; Talent &#8211; Technology &#8211; Training These four T\u2019s can be used to define your efforts in you job.
