{"id":626,"date":"2008-08-13T05:00:34","date_gmt":"2008-08-13T13:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/?p=626"},"modified":"2008-08-11T15:47:46","modified_gmt":"2008-08-11T23:47:46","slug":"making-change-happen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/2008\/08\/making-change-happen\/","title":{"rendered":"Making Change Happen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reviewing processes or procedures helps you to streamline the work flow of your CAD environment.\u00a0 But when you review &#8211; what do you do?<\/p>\n<p>I am convinced that the CAD Managers job includes reviewing, defining and refining each and every step of the CAD process.\u00a0 From creation to completion.\u00a0 From files to projects to overall office flow.<\/p>\n<p>So as you can expect &#8211; I have a plan for reviewing areas that fall into your overview.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Investigate<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Start by thinking through the major steps in your process.\u00a0 Write down each step in your work flow from the first point you touch CAD (or before).\u00a0 Do it in a timeline manner, starting with the first step and ending with plotting (or beyond).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Identify<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Review the list for the areas that you KNOW are causing problems and flag them.\u00a0 Keep the list in the same order, just flag the ones that you want to work on first.\u00a0 This will allow you to work on the top priority issues while also seeing the overall flow of the process.<\/p>\n<p>Take each task or step and ask some questions.\u00a0 Is it working effectively?\u00a0 Can it be improved?\u00a0 Is it in need or corrective action?\u00a0 Don&#8217;t forget to look at each step in the context of the whole.\u00a0 Isolating a step from the overall process could make you sacrifice overall efficiencies for the sake os one step getting better.\u00a0 This could actually make the whole process from end to end take longer, even though each step is better.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Correct<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After you have determined that an item needs to be corrected.\u00a0 Define how you are going to do that and who will need to help.\u00a0 If it is a process that involves many people &#8211; get much input.\u00a0 Determine the best approach to getting better results and move in that direction.\u00a0 If the problem is just a quick fis, then do it and move on.\u00a0 If the problem impacts multiple departments or offices, make sure you gather their input before moving forward.\u00a0 The greater the impact or change, the longer it will take and the more people you will need to have involved.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Improve<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If the issue is just an improvement to an existing work flow, then make small adjustments and guage the results.\u00a0 Most people will agree that making progress is a good thing, but make changes slow enough and step by step so you can track the impact.\u00a0 If you change too much too quickly, you may have problems determining which step caused the problem.<\/p>\n<p>By moving slowly and according to plan, you can access your progress, make modification and garner support.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reviewing processes or procedures helps you to streamline the work flow of your CAD environment.\u00a0 But when you review &#8211; what do you do?
