{"id":2846,"date":"2012-10-25T06:04:45","date_gmt":"2012-10-25T13:04:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/?p=2846"},"modified":"2012-10-25T07:27:51","modified_gmt":"2012-10-25T14:27:51","slug":"tip-for-getting-the-most-out-of-au-classes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/2012\/10\/tip-for-getting-the-most-out-of-au-classes\/","title":{"rendered":"Tip for Getting the Most out of AU Classes"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"seriesmeta\">This entry is part 3 of 3 in the series <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/series\/au2012\/\" class=\"series-73\" title=\"AU2012\">AU2012<\/a><\/div><p>Last repost from 2006 on BLAUGI&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Mark<br \/>\n_____<\/p>\n<p>I have sat through some great classes and some stinkers.\u00a0 Here are some tips for maximizing the value of each class.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Get the Handout<\/strong> &#8211; before you enter the room (if they have them).\u00a0 Do not take more than one.\u00a0 Even if you have someone else who needs it.\u00a0 The handouts will be available on-line after the event for those back home.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sit near the front <\/strong>&#8211; you do not want to have any problems seeing the presentation.\u00a0 Someone once said that the best distance to be from the screen is double the distance of the screen width.\u00a0 So if the screen is twenty feet wide, sit 40 feet back.\u00a0 That was the suggestion for going to the movie theater, but I am not sure that it is effective or even based on a mathematical equation.\u00a0 I just know that if I sit too far back I cannot see the menu picks that the presenter is doing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Take more notes than usual <\/strong>&#8211; write down as much as you can.\u00a0 Even if the handout is exhaustive &#8211; write down your questions or perceptions.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t expect to remember anything you hear.\u00a0 You will be taking so many classes that it will all blur together.\u00a0 Take notes on the handouts or on another paper, but take notes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quiet your cell phone<\/strong> &#8211; out of courtesy to speak and those around you.\u00a0 Please turn it off or put it to silent mode.\u00a0 If you must answer it, then leave the room.\u00a0 Do not talk on your phone in the class.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nIf the class is not what you expect &#8211; move to another class. <\/strong>This is acceptable, based on the occupancy of the other class.\u00a0 If it is full you cannot get in, but if there is room, you can squeeze in.\u00a0 If you are going to do this, do it in the first 15 minutes.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nSave your questions for the end<\/strong> &#8211; don&#8217;t interrupt unless you have permission.\u00a0 When you ask a question keep it general in nature.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t ask a question that is so specific that others will not learn from it.\u00a0 Avoid asking questions during the class that relate to one specific file or problem that is nagging at you.\u00a0 Ask these of the instructor after they have completed the class.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Applaud the speaker at the end<\/strong> &#8211; they work hard and deserve your appreciation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fill out the Eval<\/strong> &#8211; be honest and make suggestions for improvement.\u00a0 Speakers read these and improve for next year.\u00a0 Your comments help make AU better.<\/p>\n<br>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"seriesmeta\">This entry is part 3 of 3 in the series <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/series\/au2012\/\" class=\"series-73\" title=\"AU2012\">AU2012<\/a><\/div><p>Last repost from 2006 on BLAUGI&#8230; Mark _____ I have sat through some great classes and some stinkers.\u00a0 Here are some tips for maximizing the value of each class.
