{"id":2844,"date":"2012-10-24T05:29:36","date_gmt":"2012-10-24T12:29:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/?p=2844"},"modified":"2012-10-25T07:27:43","modified_gmt":"2012-10-25T14:27:43","slug":"tips-for-getting-the-most-out-of-au-exhibits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/2012\/10\/tips-for-getting-the-most-out-of-au-exhibits\/","title":{"rendered":"Tips for Getting the Most out of AU Exhibits"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"seriesmeta\">This entry is part 2 of 3 in the series <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/series\/au2012\/\" class=\"series-73\" title=\"AU2012\">AU2012<\/a><\/div><p>Another repost from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blaugi.com\">BLAUGI<\/a> in 2006&#8230;\u00a0 still good to review.<\/p>\n<p>Mark<br \/>\n_____<\/p>\n<p>Here are some tips for getting the most out of the Exhibit Floor at Autodesk University (or any other event where there are vendors booths).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Look at the exhibitors list<\/strong> &#8211; it is posted on the AU site here (now a dead link).\u00a0 It has a complete list of vendors that will be in the exhibit hall.\u00a0 Print it out and mark the ones you want to visit in the first round.\u00a0 Now mark another set for the second round.\u00a0 Now mark up a third round.\u00a0 Prioritize then in that order.\u00a0 When you go to the hall, if you make it through all of the first round &#8211; move the second &#8211; then the third.\u00a0 You should make several passes through the hall and then make vendor visits.\u00a0 We will discuss both.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Get a show floor map<\/strong> &#8211; mark the vendors that you want to see.\u00a0 Highlight the names and locations.\u00a0 Make sure that you visit them first.<\/p>\n<p><strong>First Pass &#8211; Walk &#8211; Don&#8217;t Talk.<\/strong>\u00a0 Scope out the whole venue.\u00a0 Make a quick walk through of the whole show floor.\u00a0 Do not talk to any vendors yet.\u00a0 The purpose of this trip is to get the lay of the land, find out where the vendors are that you want to visit and mark up the floor show map to remind you where they are located.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Second Pass &#8211; Walk and Grab.<\/strong>\u00a0 This is not to talk to vendors yet.\u00a0 This is to get the freebies out of your system.\u00a0 Take as many free things as you want.\u00a0 For you and for the kids back home.\u00a0 Pick up pens, swag, flotsam, jetsam, whatever.\u00a0 Take a big bag.\u00a0 Fill it to the brim.\u00a0 Get it done early cause the stuff may not be around later.\u00a0 Dedicate yourself to getting it all and getting done.\u00a0 Sign up for all the raffles, drawings, contest and whatever is out there.\u00a0 Done? \u00a0 good&#8230; now get down to business.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Walking the Hall &#8211; Round One Visits &#8211; Walk and Talk.<\/strong>\u00a0 Okay, did you get all the free stuff you could possibly want?\u00a0 Whew, now that that is out of our system, get down to business.\u00a0 All subsequent wondering of the hall is for the purpose of getting information to help you get your job done better.\u00a0 Get out the map and visit your first level vendors.\u00a0 Talk to them about your concerns, issues and problems. Ask about software tools, upgrades, patches, etc.\u00a0 Take the time to see new releases.\u00a0 Talk to vendors and get names, contact info and exchange business cards.\u00a0 Make sure you ask to see anyone that you may know by name, but have not seen face to face.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Walking the Hall &#8211; Round Two<\/strong><strong> Visits &#8211; Walk and Talk more <\/strong>&#8211; go to your round two vendors.\u00a0 Do the same as you did for the round one vendors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Walking the Hall &#8211; Round Three<\/strong><strong> Visits &#8211; Walk and Talk again<\/strong> &#8211; go to your round three vendors.\u00a0 Do the same as you did for the round one vendors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wondering the Hall &#8211; Random Contacts<\/strong> &#8211; Now go to anything that looks interesting.\u00a0 Move outside you sweet spot.\u00a0 Talk to vendors of products that you do not use and haven&#8217;t even thought about.\u00a0 Talk to vendors that you have decided not ti buy from in the past.\u00a0 Their products may be quite different now.\u00a0 Now would also be the time to go back to the vendors that you really want to talk to again.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Debrief<\/strong> &#8211; back in your room.\u00a0 Go through everything you picked up.\u00a0 Discard the stuff that you did not really want but were to polite to refuse.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t pack it for the return flight or drive.\u00a0 Put it in the trash.<\/p>\n<br>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"seriesmeta\">This entry is part 2 of 3 in the series <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/series\/au2012\/\" class=\"series-73\" title=\"AU2012\">AU2012<\/a><\/div><p>Another repost from BLAUGI in 2006&#8230;\u00a0 still good to review.
