{"id":2688,"date":"2012-01-16T09:32:38","date_gmt":"2012-01-16T16:32:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/?p=2688"},"modified":"2012-05-08T16:27:32","modified_gmt":"2012-05-08T23:27:32","slug":"decisions-gathering-information","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/2012\/01\/decisions-gathering-information\/","title":{"rendered":"Decisions &#8211; Gathering information"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"seriesmeta\">This entry is part 3 of 9 in the series <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/series\/decision-making\/\" class=\"series-69\" title=\"Decision Making\">Decision Making<\/a><\/div><p>Our topic is decisions.\u00a0 As we all know, decisions are based on the available information you have to process prior to making the call.\u00a0 If you have very little information to go on, you run the risk of making the wrong choice.\u00a0 If you gather too much, then sometimes it clouds the water.<\/p>\n<p>Some decisions are made on very few details and facts.\u00a0 They are obvious to all that the direction to choose if fairly obvious.\u00a0 Not much time is spent thinking about the choices and the outcome.\u00a0 Everyone quickly agrees to move forward.<\/p>\n<p>But some decisions require greater levels of investigation and processing of data.\u00a0 These are the decisions I want to chat about.<\/p>\n<p>Where do you get the data and information you need to make a large decision?\u00a0 How much data do you need?\u00a0 Who do you speak with?<\/p>\n<p>Some of this is pretty standard stuff, so I will not spend a lot of time on it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Search Online.\u00a0<\/strong> Go to your favorite search tool and type in the info you are looking for.\u00a0 Use topic based searches, like \u201cbest plotters\u201d or use related terms options in Google.\u00a0 Just an a tilde ~ to your search term, like \u201c~plotters\u201d and at the bottom of the screen you will see related searches that Google might think you should try.\u00a0 You can also just type out the entire question as if you were talking to someone, like \u201cwhat is the best plotter for mylar output?\u201d and be sure to dig a few screen in, not just the first page.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read.\u00a0<\/strong> More online stuff.\u00a0 Blogs, twitter feeds, websites, vendor sites, reseller sites.\u00a0 Just read as much as you can.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Talk.<\/strong>\u00a0 Talk to people in your firm and outside your firm.\u00a0 Talk to people who have been down the search road before you.\u00a0 Talk to the front line workers at your office.\u00a0 Talk to some of the on-line personalities that you have read from the prior step.\u00a0 You would be surprised that most of them will give you some advice via email.<\/p>\n<p>How much?\u00a0 When you start to feel overwhelmed, you may have enough information.\u00a0 Review it and sift through it a few times.\u00a0 You may have some holes in your information spread that need to be filled.\u00a0 Reading it again may prompt more questions.<\/p>\n<p>This is not an exhaustive list, just a good place to start.<\/p>\n<br>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"seriesmeta\">This entry is part 3 of 9 in the series <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/series\/decision-making\/\" class=\"series-69\" title=\"Decision Making\">Decision Making<\/a><\/div><p>Our topic is decisions.\u00a0 As we all know, decisions are based on the available information you have to process prior to making the call.\u00a0 If you have very little information to go on, you run the risk of making the wrong choice.\u00a0 If you gather too much, then sometimes it clouds the water.
