Art of Drafting &#8211; Putting Together a Set of Plans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We need to retain the ability to put together a set of Plans<\/p>\n<p>I mentioned this before so this is an expansion on that comment. \u00a0You should be thinking about how a set of plans are used and then group them for maximum efficiency and clarity.\u00a0 The entire set should tell a story that starts off with the overall story and then gets in the details as you march to the back of the set.\u00a0 Think smaller scale to larger scale as you zoom in from the overall plot plans to the minute construction details.<\/p>\n<p>Keep it as simple as possible.\u00a0 Do not duplicate information on more than one sheet.\u00a0 Avoid multiple callouts of the same thing.\u00a0 Avoid over dimensioning and duplicate dimensioning form one sheet to another.\u00a0 Avoid adding superfluous detail that is not needed to communicate what you are trying to show.\u00a0 Sections should not extend beyond the area of focus.\u00a0 Data beyond a match line should not extend too far.\u00a0 Use enlarged plans only if there is too much data to display effectively on the standard plan.\u00a0 Reduce the replication of other disciplines information on your disciplines drawings.<\/p>\n<p>Putting together a set of plans first includes defining what drawings come before others.\u00a0 Getting things is the right order is critical.\u00a0 In general, it follows the flow of trades on the construction site or processes in a manufacturing flow.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a typical order for the building design process.\u00a0 This may change from industry\/building type, etc.<\/p>\n<p>General Drawing Set Order<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Titles and general information sheets<\/li>\n<li>Civil<\/li>\n<li>Landscape<\/li>\n<li>Architectural<\/li>\n<li>Structural<\/li>\n<li>Mechanical<\/li>\n<li>Fire Protection<\/li>\n<li>Plumbing<\/li>\n<li>Electrical<\/li>\n<li>ID<\/li>\n<li>Interiors \/ furniture layout<\/li>\n<li>Equipment Schedules<\/li>\n<li>Signage \/ Wayfinding<\/li>\n<li>Security<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here is an expansion of the Architectural bullet above that will show what might be done in other disciplines also.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>General sheets and notes (cover sheet, drawing index, project description, governing codes, architect and consultant addresses)<\/li>\n<li>Code analysis, exiting<\/li>\n<li>Overall and enlarged site plans<\/li>\n<li>Demolition \u2013 Existing conditions<\/li>\n<li>Floor plans<\/li>\n<li>Reflected ceiling plans<\/li>\n<li>Roof plans<\/li>\n<li>Exterior elevations<\/li>\n<li>Building sections, wall sections<\/li>\n<li>Enlarged room plans, enlarged toilet room plans, enlarged circulation drawings (stairs, escalators, lifts, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Interior elevations<\/li>\n<li>Schedules (door, window,
