If the employer sets a wage too low they may not get many takers.\u00a0 If an employee expects too much they may not find an employer willing to meet those expectations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/2011\/06\/principles-of-cad-management\/\">Fayol<\/a> also recommended that companies provide housing and such.\u00a0 The concept of the company town.\u00a0 That does not work much today as workers can and will define their living situations apart from the firm they work for.\u00a0 It can still be seen in migrant farm worker populations still today.<\/p>\n<p>So what does this have to do with CAD and BIM Managers?\u00a0 Are they paid well enough?\u00a0 You tell me with a comment?\u00a0 Are you making a fair wage?<\/p>\n<p>On an expanded idea,what are you &#8220;paying&#8221; those that help you?\u00a0 Do you offer something to those that assist you in getting things done? \u00a0 Payment is not provided as part of their wages,but you can still provide something that assists in the fairness and balance of them offering to assist you in getting your job done.\u00a0 What can you do that costs nothing and yet &#8220;pays&#8221; those that help you?<\/p>\n<p>Praise:\u00a0 Pay them a verbal compliment.<\/p>\n<p>Recognition: Tell others how they have helped you.<\/p>\n<p>Honor:\u00a0 Add the names of those that help you to your written reports to management.<\/p>\n<p>Lunch:\u00a0 Take them to lunch.\u00a0 The company might pay you back and even if they don&#8217;t you may want to do this for those that really help.<\/p>\n<p>Gift Cards: Another way of paying them back.\u00a0 Keep it cheap.\u00a0 Starbucks, Amazon, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Write them a card:\u00a0 Not a mushy card.\u00a0 Just a hand written note to them telling them how much you appreciate their help.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<br>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"seriesmeta\">This entry is part 8 of 17 in the series <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/series\/principles-of-cad-management\/\" class=\"series-75\" title=\"Principles of CAD Management\">Principles of CAD Management<\/a><\/div><p>For many many years the tension between employer and employee over fair pay has worked itself out in ways that range from great workplaces to those that encourage the workers to revolt.\u00a0 It is incumbent upon the employer to set a fair wage and for the employee to agree that the wage is fair.
