{"id":2476,"date":"2011-06-16T05:35:53","date_gmt":"2011-06-16T12:35:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/?p=2476"},"modified":"2012-11-08T16:50:58","modified_gmt":"2012-11-08T23:50:58","slug":"discipline-%e2%80%93-principles-of-cad-management","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/2011\/06\/discipline-%e2%80%93-principles-of-cad-management\/","title":{"rendered":"Discipline \u2013 Principles of CAD Management"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"seriesmeta\">This entry is part 4 of 17 in the series <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/series\/principles-of-cad-management\/\" class=\"series-75\" title=\"Principles of CAD Management\">Principles of CAD Management<\/a><\/div><p><strong>Rules<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Do you like them or dislike them?\u00a0 Maybe it has to do with who made them.\u00a0 If you made them, then you will like them.\u00a0 If others make them then you may not.\u00a0 No one dislikes a rule that they created.\u00a0 Unless of course it is a rule of discipline that will make gains based on your lose &#8211; like weight.\u00a0 Make a rule to cut back on eating and you will lose the pleasure and satisfaction that may come from eating, but you will gain the pleasure of losing a little weight.<\/p>\n<p>Fayol thought the workers should respect the rules.\u00a0 That following the rule results in better production.\u00a0 Do you agree?<\/p>\n<p>Most CAD and BIM Managers will agree that there needs to be some guidelines and rules related to production.\u00a0 That general chaos results from everyone doing what they please.\u00a0 But just having a list of rules does not guarantee success.\u00a0 Discipline in following those rules is needed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bending the Rules<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is when someone sets aside or flexes the rules beyond the norm. Bending the rules happens when someone decides that they need to work outside the lines and others agree or overlook or do not discover it happening.\u00a0 This results in non standard files and models that are more difficult to pass around or use in a team environment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Enforcement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It happens when those that oversee the implementation of the guidelines do not pay attention or allow it to happen.\u00a0 It happens slowly, when no one is watching or when the enforcement slips a little.\u00a0 Then it slips some more and then some more.\u00a0 Soon you have a twisted project that does not respond as expected.<\/p>\n<p>Remember that no one will care more about enforcement than you.\u00a0 So every other person is going to do less and less.\u00a0 You have to set the bar high so that others strive to keep up.<\/p>\n<p>Vigilance at overseeing the guidelines is needed every day.
