{"id":2423,"date":"2011-05-30T05:21:46","date_gmt":"2011-05-30T12:21:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/?p=2423"},"modified":"2012-11-08T16:47:42","modified_gmt":"2012-11-08T23:47:42","slug":"cad-manager-as-controller","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/2011\/05\/cad-manager-as-controller\/","title":{"rendered":"CAD Manager as Controller"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"seriesmeta\">This entry is part 6 of 11 in the series <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/series\/seven-functions-of-a-cad-manager\/\" class=\"series-74\" title=\"Seven Functions of a CAD Manager\">Seven Functions of a CAD Manager<\/a><\/div><p>One of the things that I have listed among the seven functions of a CAD Manager is that they need to be controlling things.\u00a0 Controlling can seem overbearing and annoying to people if it rings of some micromanaging person in your past.\u00a0 Done right and it is motivating.\u00a0 Done wrong and it is just annoying.<\/p>\n<p>Let me expand on the definition.\u00a0 Controlling should be controlled and not allowed to leak into every aspect of your work life.\u00a0 If you are a controlling person, it is seen as dominating.\u00a0 But if you control the things that tend to go out of control, then you will be appreciated.<\/p>\n<p>Before we start defining what to control, let&#8217;s talk about why we need to and what needs to be in place.<\/p>\n<p>We control things that tend to need improvement or maintenance.\u00a0 Maintaining control over your sped in a car will prevent accidents and tickets.\u00a0 Improving your gas mileage can save you money.\u00a0 So even in this simple example, we see a need to control.\u00a0 They way we control begins with Measurement.\u00a0 We measure our speed with a speedometer.\u00a0 We measure our mileage with gallons used per miles driven.<\/p>\n<p>Measurement is critical to controlling.\u00a0 Without it, how would we know where improvement or control is needed?\u00a0 How would we measure our effectiveness in controlling?<\/p>\n<p>Start measuring and tracking the areas you think need to be controlled.<\/p>\n<p>So what needs to be controlled?\u00a0 Here is my list:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Performance of People<\/li>\n<li>Performance of Technology<\/li>\n<li>Performance of Systems and Standards<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I will cover these three items in the next few posts.<\/p>\n<br>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"seriesmeta\">This entry is part 6 of 11 in the series <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/series\/seven-functions-of-a-cad-manager\/\" class=\"series-74\" title=\"Seven Functions of a CAD Manager\">Seven Functions of a CAD Manager<\/a><\/div><p>One of the things that I have listed among the seven functions of a CAD Manager is that they need to be controlling things.\u00a0 Controlling can seem overbearing and annoying to people if it rings of some micromanaging person in your past.\u00a0 Done right and it is motivating.\u00a0 Done wrong and it is just annoying.
