{"id":1939,"date":"2010-08-06T05:38:13","date_gmt":"2010-08-06T12:38:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/?p=1939"},"modified":"2010-08-06T07:18:13","modified_gmt":"2010-08-06T14:18:13","slug":"the-cad-manager-at-work-decisional-roles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/2010\/08\/the-cad-manager-at-work-decisional-roles\/","title":{"rendered":"The CAD Manager at Work \u2013 Decisional Roles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/decisions.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1942 alignleft\" title=\"decisions\" src=\"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/decisions.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"245\" height=\"184\" \/><\/a>In  \u201cthe Nature of Managerial Work\u201d (1980), Henry Mintzberg outline  the  Ten Roles of a manager.\u00a0 He continues to write and released &#8220;Managing&#8221; in 2009. \u00a0 I attempt here to  apply these roles to the CAD Manager.<\/p>\n<p>He grouped them into three sets \u2013 Interpersonal, Informational and Decisional.\u00a0\u00a0 Here is the third set.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Decisional<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>7) Entrepreneur<\/strong> &#8211; A CAD Manager designs and initiates change in an organization.\u00a0\u00a0 They bring modifications to processes that work in order to make them better.\u00a0 They deploy new tools that keep the firm ahead of the curve.\u00a0 They manage the transitions from one version to another.\u00a0 They enhance workflow with refined procedures.<\/p>\n<p><strong>8 ) Distribution Handler<\/strong> &#8211; CAD Managers deal with problems that arise when organizational operations break down.\u00a0 They find new providers.\u00a0 They restore delivery systems that fail to perform.\u00a0 They many times scramble around to find supplies for plotter at critical times.\u00a0 They manage the number of available software licenses.\u00a0 They cover for people who might be on vacation.\u00a0 They deal with broken hardware and have to find workarounds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>9) Resource Allocator<\/strong> &#8211; CAD Managers control the allocation of support staff, money, licenses and time by scheduling their own time and others.\u00a0 They create budgets and get approvals through negotiation with the CFO or others.\u00a0 They apply limited time or money to critical needs and look farther down the road to plan for tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>10) Negotiator<\/strong> &#8211; A CAD Manager spends a lot of time in negotiations.\u00a0 As mentioned above, it could be budgets, software, supplies or whatever.\u00a0 They are constantly working with others to negotiate the best outcome given any circumstance.\u00a0 If there are conflicting deadlines, they negotiate an agreed upon time-line.\u00a0 If there are competing objectives they balance the people and resources to get both done.\u00a0 If there is a critical need not being met, they discuss issues and reach agreement for progress.<\/p>\n<p>The decision-making efforts of the CAD Manager are constant.\u00a0 They are always looking for new ways of working and new tools.\u00a0 They distribute the time and resources allocated to them and make sure that others are delivering.\u00a0 And finally &#8211; they are always trying to find win-win results in every situation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In \u201cthe Nature of Managerial Work\u201d (1980), Henry Mintzberg outline the Ten Roles of a manager.\u00a0 He continues to write and released &#8220;Managing&#8221; in 2009. \u00a0 I attempt here to apply these roles to the CAD Manager.
