{"id":1929,"date":"2010-08-05T05:19:39","date_gmt":"2010-08-05T12:19:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/?p=1929"},"modified":"2010-08-04T07:43:23","modified_gmt":"2010-08-04T14:43:23","slug":"the-cad-manager-at-work-informational-roles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/2010\/08\/the-cad-manager-at-work-informational-roles\/","title":{"rendered":"The CAD Manager at Work &#8211; Informational Roles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/brain2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1932 alignleft\" title=\"brain2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/brain2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"208\" height=\"242\" \/><\/a>In \u201cthe Nature of Managerial Work\u201d (1980), Henry Mintzberg outline  the Ten Roles of a manager.\u00a0 The book is 30 years old but there are still many that rely upon his categorizations. \u00a0 I attempt here to  apply them to the role of CAD Manager.<\/p>\n<p>He grouped them into three sets \u2013 Interpersonal, Informational and Decisional.\u00a0\u00a0 Here is the second set.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Informational<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>4) Monitor<\/strong> &#8211; The CAD Manager gathers information from inside and outside the company.\u00a0 Information is power and the CAD Manager needs information to do their job.\u00a0 Information is useless unless processed and reviewed.\u00a0 The CAD Manager scans books and articles, the Internet, blogs, tweets, wherever&#8230;\u00a0 They keep their ears open and their eyes scanning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5) Disseminator<\/strong> &#8211; The CAD Manager transmits both factual and attitudinal information to others inside the firm.\u00a0 They do not hoard the information they collect.\u00a0 They process it and pass on the useful info to others.\u00a0 Facts and data plus any kind of cultural indications about where the firm or the staff may be headed.\u00a0 What do others think of the CAD environment?\u00a0 The CAD Manager finds out and tells others.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6) Spokesperson<\/strong> &#8211; The CAD Manager provides information to others outside the firm.\u00a0 They do this verbally when they present or are speakers at events, or they do it through written reports and more.\u00a0 They get involved in outlining the CAD capabilities that marketing and PR are using in proposals.\u00a0 They help frame the message on their websites.\u00a0 They provide information to their Project Managers and sales staff so that they know what the capabilities and differentiators are that set the company apart.<\/p>\n<p>The Informational skills are always needed.\u00a0 Not only for gathering but for distributing.\u00a0 Information is to be shared.\u00a0 The more others know about your environment the better they will be at understanding your goal, processes and focus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In \u201cthe Nature of Managerial Work\u201d (1980), Henry Mintzberg outline the Ten Roles of a manager.\u00a0 The book is 30 years old but there are still many that rely upon his categorizations. \u00a0 I attempt here to apply them to the role of CAD Manager.
