{"id":1924,"date":"2010-08-04T05:44:52","date_gmt":"2010-08-04T12:44:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/?p=1924"},"modified":"2010-08-04T07:40:58","modified_gmt":"2010-08-04T14:40:58","slug":"the-cad-manager-at-work-interpersonal-roles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/2010\/08\/the-cad-manager-at-work-interpersonal-roles\/","title":{"rendered":"The CAD Manager at Work &#8211; Interpersonal Roles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In &#8220;the Nature of Managerial Work&#8221; (1980), Henry Mintzberg outline the Ten Roles of a manager.\u00a0 These ten roles have been applied in many ways to many differing titles within an organization.\u00a0 I attempt here to apply them to the role of CAD Manager.<\/p>\n<p>He grouped them into three sets &#8211; Interpersonal, Informational and Decisional.\u00a0\u00a0 Here is the first set.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Group1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1935\" title=\"Group\" src=\"https:\/\/www.caddmanager.com\/CMB\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Group1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"128\" height=\"98\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Interpersonal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1) <\/strong><strong>Figurehead <\/strong>&#8211; The CAD Manager acts as a symbol or representative of the organization.\u00a0 The CAD Manager fills this role when he or she stands up for the company in front of vendors, clients and co-workers.\u00a0 They represent the company in negotiations with resellers and providers.\u00a0 They reflect the values of the company to outsiders.\u00a0 It might be just a ceremonial role when receiving awards or accolades for the firm or when speaking at event.\u00a0 When they talk, they are speaking as one from a management level of the firm.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2) <\/strong><strong>Leader <\/strong>&#8211; The CAD Manager interacts with subordinates to motivate and develop them.\u00a0 It is their role to encourage staff to use the standard.\u00a0 Not to just use it but to understand it and agree with the reasons for it&#8217;s existence.\u00a0 They educate others in the use of their tools and software to make the company more productive.\u00a0 They oversee the overall training efforts.\u00a0 They motivate others to care about CAD and the quality of the product.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3) <\/strong><strong>Liaison <\/strong>&#8211; The CAD Manager establishes a network of contacts to gather information inside and outside the company.\u00a0 They are connected.\u00a0 Internally, they connect with upper management and the front line users.\u00a0 They gather information about productivity, problems and project milestones.\u00a0 They use this information to define their tasks.\u00a0 Externally, they link to others in the industry or CAD arena to get more info and tips on how to do things better or avoid mistakes.<\/p>\n<p>These three are focused on interacting with others.\u00a0 Personally communicating and exchanging information.\u00a0 Motivating others, representing the firm and gathering information via conversations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In &#8220;the Nature of Managerial Work&#8221; (1980), Henry Mintzberg outline the Ten Roles of a manager.\u00a0 These ten roles have been applied in many ways to many differing titles within an organization.\u00a0 I attempt here to apply them to the role of CAD Manager.
