BIM Project
Teams
Project teams
are usually smaller than those needed for traditional CAD. They
also span the overall talent needed from start to finish. Revit
projects push more DD and CD phase work to the front of the
process. Teams must be mixture of talent in design, code
analysis, ADA requirements and other mid and late design
expertise from the beginning of the project.
Team creation
and memberships should be discussed prior to project kickoff.
Getting the right people on the right job is critical. No
longer can we just apply someone to a project because they have
the free time.
Division of
labor is not the same as CAD projects. The dividing of
workloads may differ along non-expected lines. No longer can we
break out detailing from modeling, documentation from design or
production from conceptual development.
The full
stakeholder team should be represented in the process, from MEP
and Structural consultants to the Owner. At every step of the
process, all stakeholders need to be involved.
It can be
equated to the construction process. When an issue arises on
the construction site, all stakeholders get involved to provide
the proper decisions so that progress can be made at the
quickest pace. With BIM, all stakeholders get involved to
advance the design as the virtual building is built. BIM
design work is done on a virtual construction site.
