Working from your Strength
- Leveraging the positives in your management style - Part 3
Over the past few Journals we have looked into many different types of
CAD Managers. We looked at three styles of management in
June, three more in
July and
concluded with three in
August.
We continue what we started in
September and October
look at a few more positive traits that can be capitalized upon.
From the past Journals we covered...
1. You are Dependable
2. You are
Organized
3. You are Investigational
4. You are a
Trailblazing Pioneer
5. You are Planner
6. You are a Coach
Now we move on to...
7.
You are an Arbitrator
You can work with anyone and get anyone to work with you.
You can lead teams and get people to agree on project decisions.
You are good at moving issues forward even when people disagree.
You can find common ground when opinions are on opposite corners
of a subject.
Leveraging this Strength:
Step in the middle of disputes and gently help both sides
see the others perspective. Seek opportunities to
help others move past stalemates toward progress. This
may just be casual conversations in the hall, or maybe over
lunch. Working with people who are not getting along
can be touchy, but it is well worth it.
8. You have Charisma
People like you. You find it easy to fit into any
situation. People want to have you around. Your
ability to charm others covers your mistakes when needed.
Leveraging this Strength: You
have to watch yourself on this one. Some may take your
confidence for cockiness. They may think your likeable
nature is political schmoozing. That you have charmed
your way to success. Balance this trait with a health
dose of humility and compliments toward others.
9. You are Disciplined
You can be depended upon. You take things seriously.
You give your word and stand by it. You know the rules (or
make them) and you follow them. You encourage others
to follow the processes and guidelines that are in place.
I think every CAD Manager have a good measure of this trait.
Leveraging this Strength: Making
successes out of this trait is fairly easy in the CAD
Manager business. Making and keeping promises and
rules are a major part of the game. Make sure you
don't over do it. Leveraging this strength is done by
actually keeping it in check. Do not expect all others
to share your joy in discipline.
