I asked what was on your list of focuses in 2010, then I compared the results to the 2009 survey on the same topic.   Here is what I found…

The concept was to allow only two choices from the list as the ones that they would focus on in 2010.

The top issue remains CAD Standards and it has actually gathered more focus that last year. 55% saying it was a top focus in 2010 compared to 47% in 2009.

Software rollout swapped places with User training in 2010.  Training is needed in the minds of CAD Managers a little more than rolling out new software.

Job stability as a main focus moved down on the list of  concerns in 2010.  This is good news as this area was the second highest concern in 2009.  It dropped from 46% of those who took the survey in 2009 saying it was on their list down to 26% in 2010.  That means that almost 75% did not consider the need to focus on keeping their job as a priority, compared to almost half in 2009.

It is being done as part of a PhD dissertation (not mine) focused on BIM and LEED issues.

I am re-running a poll from this time last year so that we can compare the results.  Have things changed in a year?  Are you using different software now than at this time last year?  Have you moved from one software title to another one.

This poll just focuses on Autodesk products, but you may use others.  Please jsut let us know what Autodesk tools you are using.

I am putting together a survey of BIM Managers and BIM Support staff.

Do you have the title of BIM Manager, BIM Coordinator or anything with BIM in the title? Do you oversee your BIM software use at your firm? Do you coordinate BIM project efforts or standards?

BIM Manager – The Newest Position – BIM Manager, BIM Leader, BIM Coach, BIM Coordinator. Just some of the titles being handed out to those forward thinking BIM leaders. There is a new position that is developing as BIM progresses. It is one dedicated to overseeing BIM projects. Is it different that CAD Manager? Is it the same? What duties should a BIM Manager be doing? What are the same? Is this a short term evolution or is the CAD Manager being replaced? Discover what it takes to be a BIM Manager.
