AUGI Launches New Publication – AUGI AEC Edge

AUGI and Extension Media are excited to announce AUGI AEC Edge – A new publication launched today that is focused on the AEC industry.

AUGI AEC Edge is dedicated to providing cutting edge industry information and useful tips on all aspects of Autodesk’s digital design software necessary for accurate project design, visualization and analysis. This valuable information will enable readers to deliver their projects faster, with greater accuracy, creativity and with reduced environmental impact.

Well actually, Lake Oswego. I am at the offices of Autodesk in Lake Oswego, Oregon. I am here with my fellow AUGI Board members. We have full days of meeting ahead of use. We will be discussing our current status and planning the future of the organization. On Friday we will meet up with fellow AUGI members. Please join us if you are in the area.

AUGI CAD Camp – Salt Lake City

I just returned from presenting three classes at the Salt Lake City CAD Camp. It was a well attended event in downtown SLC. Matt Murphy “Revealed” several classes. David Cohn presented on Annotation Scaling for Text. There were Civil, Architectural and Manufacturing focused classes. I presented on CAD Leadership, Preventative CAD Management and working with BAD CAD.

AUGI gave away an assortment or prizes ranging from computer bags,to sweatshirts and MP3 players.

AUGI CAD Camp – Los Angeles

I attended the AUGI CAD Camp today. It was located near LAX airport. It was a great event.

AUGI provided a wide range of educational presentations. Matt Murphy was the master of ceremonies, as he does so well at so many events. He presented some of his “Revealed” topics. Other presenters included Robert Green on CAD Management and David Cohn presented on a variety of topics and was snapping pictures at every turn. Heidi Hewett present on the main stage and the anchor Autodesk personality. She discussed AutoCAD 2009.

Other presenters were part of the Kelar Pacific team (the sponsoring reseller) and Scott Davis (my RUGIE buddy) and Angel Espinoza (Civil Tech Specialist with Autodesk and former coworker of my from KETIV Technologies).

The halls were crammed for the buffet lunch and to see the vendor displays from e-Specs, 4D Technologies, nVidia, AIA Pasadena and others.

The event was well attended, but I did not get a final head count.

Revit User Group – Inland Empire

We had the May RUGIE meeting at HMC Architects. The turnout was about 35 or so. We had the opportunity to hear about e-Specs from Seamus McGrady of Interspec. This tool works with Revit to pull the appropriate spec sections from Master Spec.

Scott Davis of Autodesk then showed us the power of the Revit Building Maker. Moving from shapes and masses to finished building components in minutes. He show several methods of doing this. He also showed some advance design tools that allow you to create swept blends and turn them into walls and curtain walls. Exciting stuff.

ACA 2008 – UCSFOLLOW Troubles

Having just moved to a AutoCAD Architecture 2008, I have joined the ranks of those who have troubles with the 2007 DWG format.

The first one is that UCSFOLLOW gets reset to “0″ every time we open a DWG file. This apparently has been going on for a while and is still not fixed. Here are a few threads that might help address this problem if it effects you.

AUGI Board Meeting – Final

Last Friday we completed our meetings. I flew back home on Friday night. Back to work today. All in all it was a very productive time. We discussed a multitude of possible offerings and planned for the next year. We still need to finalize the plan, but we made much progress.

AUGI Board Meeting – Day 4

Yesterday we completed day 4 of the AUGI board meeting. This was a pure board meeting with action items and agenda setting. We met with Kelly Rupp who is the Director of the Worldwide Sales Programs. We had discussions about AUGI connections that were global in nature. Creating country chapters where they do not exist now. It was very encouraging. We are still meeting today and I will keep you posted.

Continuing the efforts of the Board…

We finished up the opening portion of the meeting which was three days of discussion, contemplating and arranging the work effort of the board. This was an educational event where we looked into options for how we get our work done. Thursday we will be reviewing the planning efforts for the next year.
