I was part of the press conference where they annonced some of the results.

“A quantitative analysis of the recent BIM survey showed that 58 percent of building professionals preferred the approach and features of Bentley BIM solutions while 38 percent preferred those of Autodesk’s Revit. Of those with “strongly preferred” responses, 69 percent chose Bentley BIM solutions and 31 percent chose Revit.” – from the press release

Huw Roberts of Bentley stated at the press conference “In a fair fight, we win”

They produced a BIM Wizard that helps in selecting software.

“The BIM Wizard allows AEC professionals to take the BIM Challenge online and then generates a recommendation of Revit or Bentley BIM

How suprising, a “Bentley-commissioned survey” and the results turn out like this. What a joke. The questions they asked were such BS. I guess I’ll stop using Revit now and switch over to Bentley! yeah, sure.

As Bentley “wins” their own sponsored survey, their customers tell the real story.

“Autodesk, Inc. and Avatech Solutions, today announced that Harley Ellis Devereaux (HED), an national architecture and engineering firm with operations across the United States, has adopted the Revit platform for building information modeling (BIM) across the firm, replacing Bentley Triforma.”

“”For over 10 years, our firm has been pushing toward BIM, but we hit a brick wall with Bentley and knew we needed a better solution,” said Donald Giroux, Chief Operating Officer, Harley Ellis Devereaux. “

To answer David’s question, the survey (& Wizard) questions were developed by AECbytes founder, LachmiK, with a PhD in architectural CAD. At least half of the questions favor Revit over Bentley BIM.

To answer Scott’s, to administer a fair survey, one would have to go to an independent & respected source — which Bentley did.

Clearly, there is something to learn by taking the 10min BIM Wizard.

yes, but it showed that for “BIM Solutions Currently Being Used or Evaluated”, REVIT had 67% of those surveyed and 14% were using Bentley BIM. I will attribute some of this to “the grass is always greeer” syndrome.
